Harriman state park is huge and like even the most crowded of national parks, typically hiking more than 2 miles from any trailhead in harriman and you are almost guaranteed to experience some solitude even if you don't get total isolation. Harriman state park is the second largest state park in new york with 200 miles of hiking trails, over 30 lakes, and only an hour's drive from nyc.
